SPD investigators recently linked two New York residents with a scheme to use fraudulently obtained credit card/bank information to purchase pre-paid gift cards. On 9/30/19 at approximately 8:30 pm patrol officers responded to the Rose’s store located in the unit block of E Glenwood Ave for a report of a suspect inside of the store acting suspiciously. Responding officers contacted Raheema Wallace, 19 of Queens, NY as she was exiting the store. During a field interview, it was determined that Ms. Wallace was in possession of marijuana. Officers also contacted Paul Ogunwomoju, 21 of Queens, NY who was waiting for Ms. Wallace in a running vehicle. Mr. Ogunwomoju was also found in possession of marijuana. Further investigation and the execution of search warrants led detectives to discover that both suspects were in possession of over 40 stolen credit/bank card numbers uploaded into multiple cell phones. The two suspects were using an app on their phones to purchase pre-paid gift cards with stolen bank/credit information from unknowing victims. Both suspects were charged in JP #7 with Forgery 2nd, Conspiracy 2nd and Possession of marijuana. Both suspects were released on $2,000 unsecured bond pending a future court hearing. Smyrna Police commend the caller who observed suspicious activity and remind customers and businesses to call us if they observe similar behavior, especially regarding large quantity purchases of pre-paid gift cards.
