Juvenile Arrested for Vehicular Assault

On Friday, May 15, 2026, at approximately 1600 hours, the Smyrna Police Department was dispatched to Sunnyside Park within the Sunnyside Development in reference to a subject being struck by a dirt bike.

It was determined that while an 8-year-old male victim was playing on the basketball courts, a juvenile subject illegally operating a dirt bike ran into him, causing injury. Further investigation revealed that the juvenile subject on the dirt bike then fled the scene without notifying authorities.

The 8-year-old male victim was transported to Nemours Children's Hospital for his injuries.

SPD units then searched the area and located the operator of the dirt bike, identified as a 15-year-old male from Smyrna, DE, who is also a resident of the Sunnyside Development.

The suspect was brought to SPD, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and released on a $12,005.00 unsecured bond pending a future court hearing in the Kent County Family Court.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

• Assault Second Degree (Felony)

• Reckless Endangering Second Degree

• Vehicular Assault Second Degree

• Various OHV Violations
