Smyrna Police patrol officers recently arrested a local man for his 7th offense DUI as well as possession of drugs and driving without a license. On 9/14/20, at approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of US 13 and SR1 exit 114 for a report of a person passed out behind the wheel. Upon arrival, officers located Augustine Haymond, 40 of Smyrna asleep behind the wheel of his SUV at the traffic light with the vehicle running and in gear. Officers were able to safely wake Mr. Haymond up. Upon removing him from the vehicle, officers observed numerous syringes in his lap. Mr. Haymond was disoriented and required medical care at KGH. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of additional illegal prescription pills. After being discharged from the hospital, Mr. Haymond was charged with the following offenses;
7th offense Driving under the Influence
Possession of a controlled substance
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Driving while Suspended or Revoked
Mr. Haymond was arraigned via video court in JP #7 where he was remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $11,000 secured bond pending a future court hearing.
