Smyrna Police Take Barricaded Subject into Custody

Smyrna Police currently have a male subject in custody and are transporting him with EMS for medical treatment/evaluation after a barricade situation. On 10/21/19 at approximately 7:15 p.m. SPD officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Owens Brook Dr. for a domestic situation. Shortly after their arrival, this situation escalated into an armed male in his 60’s barricading himself inside of the home. SPD set up a perimeter and began evacuating residences in the area while trying to communicate with the male subject. During this incident, it is believed that the male subject fired one round at himself, causing injury to his upper body. At approximately 8:30 p.m. the male surrendered peacefully and unarmed to SPD. He is currently being medically treated and will also receive a psychiatric evaluation. The circumstances surrounding what led up to this incident remain under investigation. Any charges that may be filed will occur at a later date after the subject receives medical and psychiatric clearance. The barricade situation is over, and there is no threat to public safety. Police will remain in the area as this investigation continues. There are no further details to release at this time.
