Smyrna Police have charged a local pair with gun crimes and other crimes after a brief pursuit this weekend. On Saturday, 3/23/24, at approximately 10 p.m., a Smyrna Police Officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle parked on the Belmont Hall property located in the 200 block of Smyrna Leipsic Rd. This officer attempted to contact a pair he observed inside of the vehicle to ascertain why they were parked on the closed property after hours. The male driver fled from the officer eastbound on Smyrna Leipsic Rd. Officers quickly canvassed the area and located the vehicle abandoned after an apparent collision approximately ½ mile from the initial stop. Officers were able to locate a 17-year-old female passenger from Smyrna and take her into custody without incident. Officers then located the driver, 20-year-old Azmere Hall of Dover. Mr. Hall was also taken into custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle yielded a handgun with an obliterated serial number as well as a high-capacity magazine. Officers also located a large amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The pair were brought back to Smyrna PD, where they were presented with the following charges in JP #2 via video court:
Azmere Hall: Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, Possession of a large capacity magazine, Possession of an untraceable firearm, Criminal Mischief over $5,000, Disregarding a Police Officer’s signal, Endangering the welfare of a child, Unsafe storage of a firearm, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Criminal trespassing, various other traffic charges. Mr. Hall was committed to SCI in lieu of $31,000+ secured bond pending a future court hearing.
17-year-old female of Smyrna: Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Carrying a concealed deadly weapon, Possession of a large capacity magazine, Possession of an untraceable firearm, Unsafe storage of a firearm, Possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, Criminal Trespassing. The juvenile was released to a guardian on unsecured bond.
